“Détente in Small Steps – Towards a Stable Security Situation in Europe” (Vienna)

On March 7  CAISS Acting Director Anna Gussarova participated in a workhop “Détente in Small Steps – Towards a Stable Security Situation in Europe” Young Research Fellows Meeting, organized by Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, Regional Office for Cooperation and Peace in Europe (FES ROCPE).

Based on the discussion during the previous workshop and the resulting working paper, the participants further discussed thematic priorities for cooperation – the so-called “islands of cooperation” (areas of increased cooperation emerging from a sea of disagreement – could offer one way out of the geopolitical stalemate between Russia and the Western world) – between Russia / the “in-between” states/and the EU plus US. FLEET Expert Group (Fresh Look on East European Trends) agreed on the results of the workshop, discussion of further steps, distribution of tasks and outlook on the forthcoming meeting in fall 2017 in Vienna.
